"Rita Blitt's direction is circular as she creates, emends, evolves, retreats, and returns to the visual gestures that define a body of work spanning more than sixty years. Each line she draws is a new circle awaiting completion."
--Connie Gibbons, Curator & Editor, Rita Blitt | Around and Round
During the last sixty years Rita Blitt has rendered an extensive body of work that ranges from monumental sculptures that anchor communities around the world, to acrylic forms that are suspended and spin gently with air currents, to the thousands of drawings and paintings that serve as a stage for the dance and music that flow from her hands.
Around and Round is presented in conjunction with the release of the book Rita Blitt | Around and Round commemorating the donation of the Rita Blitt Legacy Collection and Archive to the Mulvane Art Museum. With essays by curators, art historians, and others, the pages of the book are animated by the paintings, drawings, and sculptures that highlight Rita Blitt's studio artistic practice.
