Join co-curators Professor Madeline Eschenburg and Mulvane Collections Manager Rebecca Manning for a tour of Shifting Perspectives. Shifting Perspectives is an exhibition of art and material culture from the Mulvane Art Museum’s permanent collection, ranging from the 17th century to the present. Objects on display include sword guards, woodcut prints, ceramics, and paintings, which individually and collectively relate experiences of communication, exchange, and appropriation between East Asia, Europe and America. This exhibit is presented in correlation with Silk Road through Kansas a year-long series of exhibitions and lectures highlighting cultural intersections between Asian countries and the United States. Silk Road through Kansas is a collaborative project organized in partnership with regional art institutions, including the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, the University of Kansas Kress Foundation Department of Art History and the Spencer Museum of Art, the Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn University, the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg, and the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University.
