The Mulvane Art Museum invites the public to a celebration on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm, as we commemorate an exciting milestone—100 Years of Art at the Mulvane Art Museum. The event will take place at the Rita Blitt Gallery located on the campus of Washburn University. Cake and hot chocolate will be served.

Opened to the public on January 13, 1924, the Mulvane Art Museum has been a beacon of artistic inspiration for the Topeka community, Washburn University, and the broader region. Over the past century, it has evolved into a cultural hub, showcasing visual expression from at home and abroad, fostering a deep appreciation for the arts, and engaging the community in deeper conversations about the world around us.

The Mulvane Art Museum's impact was acknowledged early on by Edward Longstreth, a distinguished art critic from Philadelphia. In 1924, Longstreth wrote in the official journal of the American Federation for the Arts, "There is no gallery in my own city, Philadelphia, which can equal them (the Mulvane’s galleries). The Chicago Art Institute has no gallery suitable, and only such a gallery as the Grand Central in New York City can be compared with them. The Mulvane Museum represents the latest features in museum galleries."

As we celebrate a century of artistic excellence, the Mulvane Art Museum continues to be a vital force in the cultural landscape, showcasing a diverse array of artworks and providing a space for creativity, education, and community engagement.

Join us as we embark on a year-long journey of artistic exploration, education, and community engagement. The Mulvane Art Museum looks forward to sharing this milestone celebration with everyone who has been a part of its remarkable journey.
